About My Clients
Clients who seek me out tend to be interested in personal growth, improving their lives and relationships, and wanting to live their best life. While clients typically describe me with words that include warm, genuine, supportive and empathic, they have also let me know that what they appreciate a great deal is my ability to remember their story, retain important details about them, and my willingness to challenge them in their choices, reactions, and responsibility.
My Background and Approach
I completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in educational psychology, and a graduate certification program in school psychology, before completing my doctorate degree in clinical psychology. Afterwards, I completed a post-doctoral master’s in science in clinical psychopharmacology. I also have over 20 years of experience in providing psychotherapy, supervising emerging clinicians, developing & managing social service programs, and in senior executive management. While my academic training focused on psychodynamic theories of development and treatment, I embrace customized use of: cognitive behavioral therapy, object relations, dialectical behavioral therapy, and imago therapy. I am also influenced by relational therapy, mindfulness and eastern concepts of promoting wellness.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We are continuously changing. It is inevitable! However fear, sadness and anger often get in the way of healthy change. When they’re replaced with courage, openness and love, possibilities and potential are endless. The great philosopher Socrates once said: “an unexamined life is not worth living.” I greatly appreciate his sentiment, as he understood that the quest for insight, knowledge and self-understanding are at the core of freedom, choice and self-determination. And of living your most fulfilled life.
