About My Clients
Have you been looking for support in Maryland for teletherapy? Would you like to have someone who intimately understands the queer experience, being gender diverse, as you do your work? I am open to supporting all kinds of folx, but have a sweetspot for working with LGTBTQIA+ folx. My clients are open to experimenting towards what works, thru talking, cooking, writing, meditating, drawing, dancing, whatever helps get you there! I hope I can be a provider of safe and meaningful work for you!
My Background and Approach
We are All works-in-progress, myself included. You are the expert on you and are employing me to understand and support you. I am queer, autistic, and ADHD, and will use my skills of pattern recognition to learn your background and history, and to promote healing with humor, understanding, and by challenging you to be kind to yourself and others along the way. I aim to approach work with you collaboratively and openly. Informed by Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) approach, as well as my previous work as a special education teacher (and even by working retail and food service), I know that the relationship we share will be the strongest tool to change. I will explain my work along the way, and we will keep making commitments to you and your outcomes, one session at a time. Clients benefit from having a space to experiment new ways of responding to their concerns, relating to their thoughts and feelings with compassion and openness, and practicing more self compassion daily.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone deserves a space to feel heard and recognized, and that therapy among the many tools we might engage in, is firstly about the therapeutic alliance and relationship. Trust and commitment are important facets of any relationship, and counseling in that way is no different. I will work hard for my clients, and believe this empowers them to build their momentum too. As a queer nonbinary person, I understand what it can mean to feel persecuted and to experience negative events around authentic expression. No matter who my client is or how they identify, I really want therapy to be a space where clients can open up and engage. I may not be able to change all the attitudes of those outside the office, but having an ally in your corner can make a huge difference. I truly believe that this kind of approach will continue to change bigoted and prejudiced opinions, inspire cold shoulders and icy minds to thaw, and instill warmth, care and compassion in our communities.
