About My Clients
I specialize in depression, anxiety and addiction, specifically alcohol abuse. I enjoy working with both individuals, as well as couples, to identify problem(s), set goals, and create a plan to collaboratively meet these goals. Through education and support I make space for clients to learn, grow and flourish. I strive to encourage individuals to expand the capacity to which they understand themselves in order to enhance control over their mental health.
My Background and Approach
I obtained my Masters in Social Work from the University of South Carolina where I specialized in health/mental health and worked in varying practicum settings prior to working in acute psychiatric settings with both adolescents and adults. These settings have shaped my practice and enhanced my insight and knowledge into diverse mental health challenges. I have experience working in substance use detox and rehab settings, as well as acute psychiatric levels of care working with individuals who experience severe mental illness. As a specialist in the treatment of depression, anxiety and addiction, often individuals who experience depression and/or anxiety learn to cope with the use of substances. I seek to assist in resolving these issues by addressing the concerns at the root of the behavior. My hope is to provide healthy methods of coping, while also processing unresolved issues that led to the addictive and maladaptive behaviors in the first place.
My Values as a Therapist
If this is your first time considering therapy, I applaud your courage as this first step can often be the hardest! Just like any other health challenge, our mental health takes time and energy to heal and develop healthy ways of functioning. Spending time devoted to talking about challenges and hardships has been proven to enhance our ability to process our past and navigate future adversity. While sharing difficult information with a new therapist can be scary, know that meeting with the right therapist will offer a judgment-free zone and provide guidance and tools to help understand what you may be going through. I encourage you to take the first step and reach out to find out more information. I'd be happy to talk to you about what led you to seek out therapy and discuss ways to support you. You can send me an email or give me a call to learn more about my approach and schedule a consultation.
