About My Clients
Shengzi has clinical experiences working with individuals and couples with various mental health concerns such as Anxiety, Depression, primary family issues, trauma, transition & adjustment difficulties, and various substance-misuse related issues. She is especially passionate about working with clients from culturally diverse backgrounds, and providing linguistically sensitive, culturally appropriate, and multicultural focused treatments tailored to clients’ backgrounds and presenting concerns.
My Background and Approach
Shengzi believes everyone has the potential to achieve their life goals. She views therapy as a journey where people can explore their inner world, realizing their innate power, and then become their true selves, and be able to live a life they love. In this journey, clients and therapists are companions, working together to address and unpack those things in the past and present that inhibit the realization of the client’s ideal future. Primary therapeutic modalities include Person-Centered Counseling, Gestalt therapy, Narrative Therapy, Existential theories, and other relational approaches.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that therapy is about guiding people to connect with themselves so they can connect with others and the world; Therapy is about holding a space for people to feel the emotions that they felt so scared to feel by themselves, and to explore ways to "swim with their own sharks" with a companion. It’s not about me as a therapist making the most insightful comments, or giving the “best” solutions. It’s about holding a space for people who are in the room, and be with them when they are confused, sad, angry, hopeless, and still hold a compassionate and faithful space for them to find their own answers. So, if you are looking for direct advice giving or life coaching, we may not be a good fit. But if you are interested in connecting with yourself and the world in a deeper way, and exploring your own answers, I am here to be with you.
